We are pleased to share that Karlos Gil will be participating in the 18th Lyon Biennale — Contemporary Art, curated by Catherine Nichols. The exhibition, titled “To pass from one dream to another”, opens to the public on 17 September and will run through 13 December 2026 across various locations in Lyon.
Karlos Gil thus marks his first participation in the 18th Lyon Biennale — Contemporary Art with “Origin” (2023), shot in the vast, dark passages under Madrid. Images of the hollow underground are combined with haunting deep listening music in order to interrogate the nature of time and how cinema can shape our conception of past, present and future realities. The film conjures up ghosts of Mesopotamian warriors while predicting human disasters and futuristic alien behaviour. Things of ever deeper antiquity seem to wake up and begin their comeback lurking in a smooth subterranean labyrinth.
