Galeria Francisco Fino is pleased to share the opening of “Helena Almeida: I Am Here – Presence and Resonance” — one of the most comprehensive retrospectives of Helena Almeida’s work —, opening January 23rd at The Macao Museum of Art (MAM).
Curated by Delfim Sardo, the exhibition presents key moments and dimensions of her long career in chronological order. It aims to offer a broad reading of the unique relationship between bodily performativity and the practice of self-representation that defines her oeuvre.
Beginning with her early paintings, the exhibition is organised into thematic clusters that highlight essential aspects of her practice: the narrative character of sequential images, the relationship with space and the studio, the body as sculpture, and the interplay between bodies. The exhibition concludes with her final works, which revisit themes from earlier decades.
A second section, titled Resonance, explores the echoes of Helena Almeida’s work in the practices of a group of artists from Macao and the Chinese mainland.
Opening January 23rd, the exhibition can be visited until April 24th.
