Le Mans Sonore - Biennale du Son

Ali Kazma

Galeria Francisco Fino is pleased to share Ali Kazma’s participation at  Le Mans Sonore - Biennale du Son, with the work Variations (2026), on view until Jnauary 25th.

In Bursa, Turkey, at the world's largest factory producing fully recycled polyester filaments for the textile industry, Ali Kazma filmed the yarn production for three days using an ultra-sensitive 100mm lens to capture the making of an extremely fine fabric as it comes off the machines after a long industrial transformation process.

The result is a vast abstract audiovisual composition, broadcast on three screens and three speakers, which is reminiscent of Johann Sebastian Bach's art of fugue.

The installation, created specifically for Le Mans Sonore, presents two distinct audiovisual propositions. It begins with 120 visual segments and an equal number of different musical fragments conceived by composer Selen Gülün for cello, performed by Zeynep Ayse Hatipoglu, and by composer Kudsi Eruguner for the tambur, a traditional Turkish instrument recorded at IRCAM by Burak Savas. From these materials, Ali Kazma composed two modular video versions that overturn and question the very idea of a film soundtrack.
