We are pleased to share the first screening of Vasco Araújo's video work INTERVIEW in a cinema setting, at the Portuguese Cinematheque, October 8th at 9:30 PM.
Included in a session dedicated to the transformations of the body and the possessions of the spirit, INTERVIEW (2023) stages a mirrored self-interview across time — a diptych combining recent footage with images from the early years of Araújo's career — and across myth, appropriating the story and words of Maria Callas to narrate his own.
Presented last year as part of the exhibition Ritornare, INTERVIEW reflects on identity, transformation, and the performative nature of the self. Through the dialogue between past and present, artist and myth, Araújo reveals the tensions between vulnerability and power, artifice and authenticity.
