Interpretation is an interpretation is an interpretation...: Vasco Araújo
Galeria Francisco Fino presents Vasco Araújo's Interpretation is an interpretation is an interpretation... (2018).
Comprising 170 drawings on paper, sound, and quotes from Pessoa, Sontag and Nijinski, the installation arises from the impossibility of fixing and transmitting the movement of the human body: its movements, gestures, intensities, and sequences. However, grappling with this impossibility transforms into an intense exploration of the challenges in transcribing the movement of a dynamic body.
This impossibility yields two more immediate consequences: the first pertains to the inability to fully fix choreographic movements without resorting to image technologies, and the other involves acknowledging that we are consistently confronted with interpretations—reinterpretations, deviations, and inventions. The work thus serves as a mechanism for navigating the processes of deviations and extrapolations inherent in any interpretative movement of a code, whether linguistic, visual, mathematical, or otherwise.
