Folklore (Part 2): Pedro Barateiro, Atelier Daciano da Costa, Duvida Press
Opening 31 January 4 – 8 PM
Folklore (Part 2) is a project by Pedro Barateiro, with the participation of Atelier Daciano da Costa and the publishing house Duvida Press. The exhibition takes as its point of departure a photograph by Barateiro of the tiara of Queen D. Estefânia, held at the Royal Treasure Museum in Lisbon, which was subsequently used by Duvida Press as the cover of Folklore, a book by Martine Abdull.
Within the context of the exhibition, Duvida Press presents a selection of its catalogue in the form of posters. Barateiro also invited Atelier Daciano da Costa to present a specific work—the BNU table—originally designed for the housing of bank employees in the former Portuguese colonies.
Through this project, Barateiro continues his ongoing research into some of the issues that have most consistently informed his practice, such as authorship and the concept of the “colonized imagination,” at a time when fake news and artificial intelligence dominate the contemporary visual and ideological landscape.
