Emre Baykal: In fact, in Subterranean the ultimate product itself turns into space—a circular,
infinite space with no end in sight.
Ali Kazma: In Subterranean the production of gigantic gas pipes gives the impression of a
process without a beginning or an end, a process that lives almost beyond human control,
moving very slowly, advancing like an infinite cylinder curling and coiling throughout the
entire film. And the people we see here, they become part of this production that seemingly
exists on its own, by touching and moving inside and alongside the machines and the products.
EB: There is a similar mode of production in Electric, which follows Subterranean. Could we
say that energy is the common denominator that ties these two together?
AK: In Electric, energy and information physically flow and enter into circulation in the same
manner, at the same speed, and from the same interface. As in Subterranean, here there is also
an uninterrupted, constantly increasing production and flow of information. And of course, as a
result of this, different balances of power, different modes of existence and thought, and
different means of access and uses of information emerge.
